When Xion was beaten and subsequently absorbed into Roxas, he changed. In some way, she still existed; his form had shifted into one more androgynous, a curious mix of male and female to him, though he still appeared wholly Roxas in feature otherwise.

He did not go to The World That Never Was, but instead to Naminé, to find a way to give enough to wake Sora while leaving him able to stay him, at least until the Organization had been taken down.

Xion was forgotten by all but him. She was, ultimately, still a part of him, and he had refused to allow either of them to be forgotten so easily. While DiZ and Riku worked to restore the last bit of Sora, Roxas traveled on Naminé's behest, reluctantly slaying enemies and searching for some way to make it so he (and Naminé) could exist alongside Sora and, according to his new ally, Kairi.
